2018-2019 Parent Letter - Ms. Lily Montes
Welcome parents and students! I am very excited to begin the 2018-2019 school year! This will be my 10th year at Franklin and cannot be happier to be your child's math teacher.
In an effort to "go green," I am offering the parent letter electronically. It is important that you fill in the response of the letter to make sure I have the correct contact information. This will facilitate communication on your child's behalf. The instructions are located at the bottom of the page.

Major Assessments: 50%
Minor Assessments: 30%
Assignments: 20%
MAJOR ASSESSMENTS
At least three major assessments will be taken during each nine weeks. Remember this is the most weighted score. Prior to an exam, students will be told what material will be included on the test. It is the student’s responsibility to ask questions if they don't understand the material. No questions regarding the material will be answered during the exam. If the student is absent for the exam, they will be responsible to let me know so a make-up exam date can be arranged. Failure to follow through will result in a zero for that exam. Only excused absences will be given the opportunity to make up an exam.
CLASSWORK/HOMEWORK
Students are expected to follow school rules as laid out in the handbook. In addition, the following rules apply to the classroom
Consequences
1st offense—Teacher warning
2nd offense—Student/Teacher conference.
3rd offense—Parent Contact
4th-- Discipline Referral.
Note: Severe discipline infractions will be referred immediately to an administrator.

CLASSWORK/HOMEWORK
- It is my belief that without practice, success in math is not possible. Therefore, we will be doing as much practice in class as possible.
- Assignments that are messy, illegible or poorly organized will not receive credit.
- Show all work – answers alone, unless appropriate, are not acceptable.
Students are expected to follow school rules as laid out in the handbook. In addition, the following rules apply to the classroom
- Be on time.
- Be fully prepared for class.
- Sharpen pencils and take care of any other business of such a manner before the tardy bell rings. Class will start immediately after the bell.
- Have your laptop, composition notebook, and pencil for class every day.
- Complete all assignments given.
- Be kind, courteous, and respectful of others.
- Give your undivided attention to this class for the entire time you are in class.
- Follow the dress code.
- During tests, students should be in silence and with their eyes on the test. If the student is caught cheating, he or she will get a zero for that test with no makeup opportunities.
- Cellphones are NOT allowed during class. If a student is caught using it, it will be confiscated and taken to the front office. Parents will be able to pick up cell phones after three business days and will be subject to a $15 fee. Please prevent this by making sure your kid understands this rule.
- Be ready to learn, explore, collaborate, and impress yourself.
